View ProductsOur mini tool helps you discover how to save water by calculating potential savings from upgrading to water-efficient appliances. Simple habits like fixing leaks and using WELS-rated products can significantly reduce your consumption.
Saving water is crucial for environmental sustainability and reducing utility bills. It conserves resources, reduces energy for water treatment, and lowers your carbon footprint. Use our calculator to visualize your impact and learn how to save water.
The Water Efficiency Labelling Scheme (WELS) by HKWSD helps identify water-efficient appliances. WELS-rated products, especially Grade 1, use less water, helping you save water and contribute to a sustainable future. Our calculator uses WELS data for comparisons.
This calculator estimates your potential water and monetary savings by comparing the consumption of your current appliance (or a custom input) with a WELS Grade 4 baseline and a selected WELS-rated appliance. It uses predefined WELS data, household size, and daily usage assumptions to project annual consumption and applies Hong Kong's tiered water tariff for cost calculations.
The calculator's logic is based on annual water consumption (liters/year) derived from appliance flow rates (L/min or L/flush), household size, and daily usage assumptions (e.g., shower minutes, flushes per day). Monetary savings are calculated using the official Hong Kong tiered water tariff. Key assumptions include 365 days per year, 8 minutes per shower, 5 flushes per day, and 5 minutes of faucet use per day. CO2 savings are estimated based on water saved and a CO2 per liter factor.
For showerheads/faucets, measure the liters collected in a bucket in 1 minute. For toilets, measure the liters needed to refill the bowl after a flush. These measurements provide the consumption rate (liters per minute or liters per flush) for your custom appliance.
