The shower is an indispensable item in our daily lives, but after long-term use, the shower hose may occasionally experience leakage issues. Once leakage occurs, not only is water wasted, but it can also lead to the growth of limescale and mold, affecting the hygiene environment. Fortunately, we can take matters into our own hands and easily repair a leaking shower hose.
Step 1: Disassemble the Shower Hose

The shower hose is primarily composed of two parts: the “mesh hose” and the “flexible hose“. The mesh hose is the outer body frame of the entire hose, made of woven metal wire and coated with plastic or stainless steel. The flexible hose is the inner soft plastic pipe used to connect the faucet and showerhead. Generally, shower hose, mesh hose, and flexible hose are common terms used in Hong Kong.
Step 2: Check Leakage Location
In general, shower hose leaking can occur in three common locations:

- Leakage at the connection between the flexible hose and the faucet/showerhead, usually due to deterioration of the sealing gasket.
- The mesh hose itself is worn or kinked, causing water to leak from the damaged area.
- The flexible hose has hardened or cracked, causing a loose connection.
Step 3: Replace Leaking Components
- If the sealing gasket has deteriorated, simply visit a hardware store to purchase new “hose gaskets“, disassemble the old one, and reinstall a new gasket.
- If the mesh hose itself is damaged, it is more complicated and requires replacing the entire mesh hose.
- If the flexible hose has deteriorated, it also needs to be completely replaced with a new plastic flexible hose.
Step 4: Install and Check
After replacing all necessary components, reassemble the showerhead, flexible hose, and mesh hose in the original order. Finally, turn on the water source and check for any signs of leakage. If the connections are secure, there should be no visible leaks.
Recommended Shower Hoses
When purchasing a shower hose, consider buying higher-quality and more durable products, such as stainless steel mesh hoses. Although the initial cost may be higher, they will be more economical in the long run.
